about

09-19-1914, first battle of Ypres

lyrics

Another day of this war
Drowned men in oceans of gore
This is our punishment
This front to which we've been sent
We thought it would be so grand
Victory ours to command
But to our shock and dismay
We are but bones and decay

Into the breach- No thought of defeat
To kill these men in no mans land to feed the earth death by our hand
Into the breach- no thought of defeat
Life cut short by shrapnel blade our tomb the trench torn eyes dismayed

We thought that the enemy
Were human, that they would bleed
But even far worse than that
Were carpets of putrid rats
The stench of dysentery
Vomitous shudders, feces
All this relentless and more
Another day of this war

Into the breach- No thought of defeat
To kill these men in no mans land to feed the earth death by our hand
Into the breach- no thought of defeat
Life cut short by shrapnel blade our tomb the trench torn eyes dismayed

No words will mark us, we are the forgotten
Our actions mean nothing and now we are still
In mud we're frozen unmoving forever
Silently we scream at landmine and shell
Who will stand witness to all our damnation?
Can these deeds dream?
Wraithlike eternal our memories fading
Echoes of anguish roll out over hills
No longer important or even needed
world moving on to the next massacre
So futile our efforts and pointless our bleeding
Can these these deeds scream?

Another day of this war
Drowned men in oceans of gore
This is our punishment
This front to which we've been sent
We thought it would be so grand
Victory ours to command
But to our shock and dismay
We are but bones and decay

Into the breach
No thought of defeat
Trench tomb eternal
and rotting so sweet.
